Peckham Shed has a waiting list for participants. We would love to welcome more young people to join us, but we can’t do this without more staff. £6,000 would give us the chance to employ a Project Manager to look after our existing volunteers, help recruit new ones, work in our community to encourage more young people to get involved and help mentor our Company group members.

After a summer break the Peckham Shed team are back and can’t wait to welcome you back to your group or meet you for the very first time. If you’re interested in having a go at some drama, music, dance and singing we want to hear from you. All our sessions are created especially for you by you so we want to hear about your ideas and what you’d like to do in this terms sessions.

Children’s Theatre 1 starts on Tuesday 27th September, Children’s theatre 2 starts on Thursday 29th September and Youth Theatre starts on Wednesday 28th September.

We’d love to say a huge huge thank you to Poundland who have been just wonderful in allowing us to continue to gather positive messages for Peckham and a big thank you to Whitten Timber who donated some boards to us (and helped us put them up!)

After the awful scenes of violence and destruction on the streets of Peckham on Monday night, the Peckham Shed team felt motivated to do something, to get out onto the streets of Peckham and to try and unite the community in some positive, peaceful action.

Lucy, Dani, Jo and Lisa took over the boarded up shop front of Poundland on Rye Lane, which had been damaged in Monday’s looting. Armed only with some felt tips and post it notes, the team spent the day encouraging locals to think of positive things about Peckham by creating the ‘Why we love Peckham wall.’

There was so much fear, anger and distress in the area in the aftermath of the rioting that we wanted to do something to remind people that lots of people really care about Peckham; that there are incredibly talented young people here and a vibrant and proud community which wants to come together to try to address the problems here.

The wall became a meeting place on Monday and over the past few days , where the people of Peckham of all ages came together to talk about the recent violence, to discuss solutions and to remember why they love it here. It has encouraged people to talk, to write, to be inspired and to remember the positive.

The wall, which has been dubbed ‘The Peckham Peace Wall’ by the press has drawn attention from the local and national press as well as from publications further afield and has been shared widely on social networking sites!

We had a brilliant rehearsal this week with our friends from Stockwell good neighbours joining us in Peckham to get to know each other and sing together in anticipation of the performance this weekend. As the lyrics to ‘Emancipate yourself’ go (one of the songs we’ll be singing on Saturday)- ‘We’re singing together to show everybody how to get along!’

During our performance of H and G our main characters – Hansel, Gretel and Grace and their family made pledges to each other to try and make things better for each other. The ‘People of Peckham’ also then made their own pledges – to make people happy, give back to the community and make friends. We asked our audiences to make a pledge and here’s what they promised to do:

‘Keep my worries in perspective’
